Hewlett-Packard announced the HP EliteBook 8740w mobile workstation with the new 17-inch DreamColor display and ISV-certified workstation-class performance.
The EliteBook 8740w includes the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition processor, support for up to 16GB of RAM, and a choice of the ATI FirePro M7820, NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M, or Quadro FX 3800M video card, all with 1GB video memory.
According to HP, the optional DreamColor screen is able to display more than 1 billion active colors, “64 times the capabilities of a traditional display”.
The laptop also includes USB 3.0 for increased data transfer bandwidth, an optional backlit keyboard, and optionally integrated mobile broadband connection powered by Gobi.
HP’s new mobile workstation has an gunmetal anodized-aluminum finish and meets the MIL-STD 810G military-standard tests for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high and low temperatures.
The HP EliteBook 8740w is expected to be available worldwide starting in April, with U.S. pricing starting at $1,999.
